Nadine Menendez, the wife of former U.S. Senator Bob Menendez, has been sentenced to 4½ years in prison for her central role in a wide-ranging bribery scheme that saw her and her husband exchange political favors for hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, gold, and other luxury items. U.S. District Judge Sidney Stein also ordered Menendez to serve three years of supervised release after her prison term and to forfeit ill-gotten gains. The charges stemmed from allegations that she, along with her then-senator husband, accepted lavish bribes from three New Jersey businessmen – Wael Hana, Jose Uribe, and Fred Daibes. In return, the couple allegedly used Senator Menendez's influence to benefit the businessmen's interests, including securing lucrative contracts and attempting to interfere with criminal investigations. Evidence presented during the trial included a substantial amount of cash found in their home, gold bars, a luxury Mercedes-Benz convertible, and payments for a mortgage and no-show jobs.

This sentencing precedes the upcoming trial of her husband, former Senator Bob Menendez, who faces similar charges. Senator Menendez resigned from his long-held Senate seat earlier this year amidst the mounting legal pressure and intense public scrutiny surrounding the allegations.
